The U. S. Department of Agriculture's Plant Hardiness Zone
Map provides recommended ranges that plants will grow well.
Hardiness is the ability of plants to endure low temperatures.
The map has eleven zones rated to identify areas where specific
plants will thrive. The zones are only approximations. You may
find that, due to location, altitude, weather conditions, etc.
that plants rates for zones above or below your area may do
well.
Zone Temperature Ranges of Annual Minimum Temperatures
- Zone 1, below 50ºF
- Zone 2, -50 to -40ºF
- Zone 3, -40 to -30ºF
- Zone 4, -30 to -20ºF
- Zone 5, -20 to -10ºF
- Zone 6, -10 to -0ºF
- Zone 7, -0 to 10ºF
- Zone 8, 10 to 20ºF
- Zone 9, 20 to 30ºF
- Zone 10, 30 to 40ºF
- Zone 11 Above 40ºF
